Navigating insurance can be one of the most confusing parts of scheduling an eye exam—but we’re here to make it easier.
Morgantown Eye Associates believes in clear, upfront communication about costs, insurance plans, and payment options so you can focus on what matters: your eye health.
Here’s what you need to know about insurance and self-pay visits at our Morgantown practice.
Do You Take My Insurance?
This is one of the most common questions we hear—and for good reason! The good news is that Morgantown Eye Associates participates with most major medical insurance plans, as well as several vision benefit providers. That includes:
- Medicare
- Most West Virginia Medicaid plans
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- UnitedHealthcare (medical only)
- UPMC
- And many more
That said, there are a few exceptions. We are not in-network with:
- Spectera
- NVA (National Vision Administrators)
- VBA (Vision Benefits of America)
- Out-of-state Medicaid plans
If you’re unsure whether your plan is accepted, we recommend calling us before your appointment. Our team will gladly check your benefits and let you know what’s covered.
Medicaid Coverage: What You Need to Know
We do accept West Virginia Medicaid, but coverage depends on your age:
- Patients under 21: Both medical and vision services are covered.
- Patients over 21: Coverage is limited to medical eye care only. Vision correction (like glasses prescriptions) is not included, but we may still be able to bill for medical-related services, such as screenings for eye disease.
No Insurance? No Problem.
If you don’t have insurance, you’re still welcome here. We offer self-pay eye exams at a fair, transparent rate. Your comprehensive exam will include everything you need for a complete check of your vision and ocular health—including retinal imaging.
Additional services, like a contact lens fitting, may be available for an added fee. But we’ll always explain your options before we begin so there are no surprises.
Need Help Understanding Your Benefits?
Don’t worry—insurance lingo is our specialty. Whether you’re unsure if your plan covers an exam, glasses, or contact lenses, our front desk staff can walk you through your coverage and help you maximize your benefits.
