Your eyesight plays a critical role in your health and daily life—and a comprehensive eye exam is the best way to protect it. takes a thorough, personalized approach to every patient visit. Whether you’re a new patient or haven’t had an eye exam in years, here’s exactly what to expect when you come in for your appointment.
A Friendly, Efficient Start
Before your appointment, we’ll send you a text message with a link to complete your patient intake forms online. This helps speed up the check-in process and allows us to spend more time focused on your care. When you arrive, we’ll scan your insurance card, confirm your information, and you’ll be ready to go.
If you prefer to fill out paperwork in person, no problem—just arrive a few minutes early and allow about 10 minutes to complete it.
The Pre-Test Experience
Once you’re checked in, one of our friendly technicians will call you back to begin the pre-testing process. This includes:
- Visual acuity testing (reading the eye chart)
- Peripheral vision screening
- Intraocular pressure measurement (non-contact method—no dreaded “puff” of air!)
- Corneal mapping (especially if you wear contact lenses)
We also offer retinal imaging, which lets us assess the health of your eyes without the need for pupil dilation in many cases. This advanced technology gives our doctors a detailed view of your retina and helps us detect early signs of eye diseases.
The Exam with Your Eye Doctor
Your optometrist will review your pre-test results and conduct a full evaluation of your vision and eye health. This includes:
- Refraction to determine your eyeglass or contact lens prescription
- Binocular vision testing to assess how your eyes work together
- A thorough ocular health assessment for conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration
If necessary, pupil dilation may be recommended to allow a better view of your internal eye structures. If you do get dilated, we suggest bringing a driver just in case, as your vision may be blurry for a few hours afterward.
How Long Does It Take?
We recommend allowing up to 90 minutes for your appointment, especially if you plan to browse for glasses or if it’s your first time. While most exams take less than an hour, we believe in giving each patient the time and attention they deserve.
Contact Lens Fittings and Training
If you're interested in contact lenses or are a new wearer, we’ll conduct a contact lens fitting and train you on how to insert, remove, and care for your lenses.
This process is fully guided and can take additional time depending on your comfort level—we’re here for you every step of the way.
